I’m going to try to pick up flowers for Dr. H on my way home. It’s a small semi-awkward thing, but it’ll help me to thank her. She’s supported the happy life of our animals all the way through. She’s doing an amazingly kind thing coming to our house. I’m very grateful to live in a world where veterinarians can help us make these decisions and carry them out. Growing up there were animals we had to euthanize the old fashioned way and I don’t think I’ll ever be as strong as my father was to do that act with precision and love. I’m very grateful that I don’t have to be.

But yes, pain will be there. I want to honor it as well as the end of the pain for Zoey.
