I like how you told about...what I try to convince people of and sometimes they seem so ...dead set against is that the homeless ARE PEOPLE. Most of us are one step away. They are not mean spirited or lazy. They are trying to make it. And so many/most would LOVE a secure place to live.
Something has happened. Sometimes its a mental health thing but often it's also just an economy thing. My daughter has a friend who was homeless. Her friend's mom was a single mom of 4 kids, lost her job, got evicted due to couldn't pay. She and her kids lived in the car for almost a year before the grandparents finally took them back in.
The grandparents "don't want to enable and didn't plan on this" (and yes, I get that. And 4 kids is a lot.) But ...the mom was trying. And dear little M (daughter's friend) is just caught in the middle. She did not choose this. Her mom, of course, would not choose this.
I like your character of Possum. I hope he and Kara find love ..hopefully together. :)
